In what was reported that T.I.’s show shooting stemmed from a beef between rappers Maino and Troy Ave on May 25 that killed one and left three shot and wounded, Maino has been cleared from the New York Police Department investigation.
“There’s a rapper named Maino. We don’t believe he was involved in the dispute,” Chief of Detectives Robert K. Boyce told reporters at a June 2 press conference. “It was his girlfriend that was shot. At that point, everybody went back to the hospital, uniformed to ensure there would not be a fight or argument at the hospital. That’s why she was guarded at the time.”
Earlier this week, Maino’s girlfriend, Maggie Carrie Heckstall, shared an Instagram post from the hospital, writing, “I am out of surgery but still in the hospital. I have not spoken to any reporters yet. I am just focusing on recovery & trying to see my family.” The New York Post also reported that her lawyer, Emel McDowell, is readying a lawsuit against the NYPD and Irving Plaza after investigators allegedly interrogated her heavily as she was in the hospital and prevented her from seeing her family.
Meanwhile, Maino took to Instagram to shut down rumors of beef with Troy Ave. “For the last 5 years Troy Ave, his team and I have had a great working relationship,” he wrote. “Not only have we performed and done several songs together but we’ve had many personal conversations about life our goals and efforts as musicians. Despite media reports to the contrary, there are No “ongoing beefs” or “entourage issues.””
Troy Ave, who was one of the injured and sustained a gunshot in the leg, pled not guilty to attempted murder charges connected to the shooting. His bodyguard, Ronald McPhatter, also known as BSB Banga, was fatally shot. Police released a video where Troy Ave is seen opening fire in the backstage green room, where the shooting started. Police are also reportedly seeking a second gunman.
Several concerts at Irving Plaza shows which included shows from Mac Miller, YG, and Vince Staples were canceled due to the ongoing investigation.
