A Tribe Called Quest to Be Presented With ASCAP Golden Note Award

The iconic hip-hop ensemble A Tribe Called Quest will be presented with the ASCAP Golden Note Award during the organization’s Rhythm & Soul Music Awards on June 23. The 29th annual ceremony will also honor the songwriters and publishers of the most-performed ASCAP songs on the 2015 R&B/hip-hop, rap and gospel charts.

The salute to A Tribe Called Quest will include posthumous recognition of Malik “Phife Dawg” Taylor, who co-founded the Grammy Award-nominated group with childhood friends Q-Tip, Ali Shaheed Muhammad and Jarobi White and died in March at age 45. Previous recipients of the prestigious Golden Note Award include Ms. Lauryn Hill, Pharrell Williams, Alicia Keys, Jay Z, Lionel Richie and Stevie Wonder.

Noted ASCAP president Paul Williams, “A Tribe Called Quest broke musical boundaries no one knew existed and reached a level of success that only very rare talents accomplish.”

Presented by Revolt and sponsored by Seagram’s Gin, the 29th annual ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Music Awards will be held at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Los Angeles.
